How long and how much is driving school?

Weekday Monday – Friday: (2 weeks) – $315
Weekend Saturday & Sunday: (5 weeks) – $370

Is driving school required?

Yes – Regardless of age, all first-time drivers living in Maryland must complete an MVA-certified Driver’s Education course in order to obtain a driver’s license.

Do I need a learner’s permit to take the driver’s Ed course?

A learner’s permit is not needed to start the class, although you must be at least 15 years old to attend. However, many students choose to take the driver’s Ed class before they take the MVA learner’s permit test, as it increases their likelihood of passing on the first try; you can apply for a learner’s permit at the age of 15 and 9 months.

There are two parts to the driving course: a classroom portion, and an in-car driving portion. Students may take the classroom portion without a learner’s permit, and then return for the on-the-road training after they have obtained their permit.
